About

The WAV Lab is much more than just a name or a place. This facility has been a community resource for York County, SC and the greater Charlotte, NC region since it first opened as Satellite Recording Studios (2007-2017). The space was restored, renamed, and reopened to the public in 2020 by Sounds Like Joe LLC.

Meet Joe

The WAV Lab is owned and operated by Joe Miller — a musician, sound designer, and audio engineer with a BM in Jazz Guitar Performance from Winthrop University and an MM in Music Technology from Duquesne University. With 20+ years of contracting experience as a musician and engineer, and 6 years teaching at university-level, Joe brings a deeply trained ear to every project. Depending on the day you can find him recording a band, producing custom music or scoring a film, or mixing a live orchestra for radio broadcast.

And… 

Long-time friend and regional music treasure Jason Poore is in residency at the studio. He’s a frequent session musician on our projects and teaches a full roster of music students weekly, Monday through Thursday evenings.

We also have studio assistant Joshua Nguyen and interns Julia Perryman and Andrew Barrier.

As projects scale up, we bring in a cast of characters selected from Charlotte’s best musicians and production crew. We have video production, live streaming, event production, and world class session musicians on call.

Over the years, The WAV Lab has produced audio for Apple TV, Adult Swim, NBC, ABC/Hulu, ESPN, BBC, PBS, Lions Gate International, Mercedes, Toyota, Microsoft, and a long list of other Fortune 500 brands — alongside local songwriters, independent filmmakers, and everyone in between. Every project gets the same level of care, whether it’s a national broadcast spot or a singer-songwriter’s first single.
