Recording a Steinway Model D grand piano is harder than you might think. The instrument has a wide range and deep brassy fundamentals in the lowest register. Add a world class concert pianist pushing the instrument to it's limits... it can whisper or roar like a battle.
Due to the origin of the music, the decision was made to present the music in a more personal and close perspective. We also optioned to use a HRTF-like technique of stereo baffled omni microphones. The results are a lifelike recording. With headphones or earbuds, it sounds like you're in the room.
